P2P

File sharing is the "the practice of sharing computer data or space on a network" (Dictionary). This provides more efficiency as users can work on documents no matter where they are, as long as the data is transmitted to their network and are able to be accessed.

P2P file sharing is when data or files are transferred through a direct connection between two peers. This includes things like music, e-books, videos, movies, etc. An example of P2P file sharing is shown in an article by David Choi, where he shows how a 19-year-old college student, Shawn Fanning, created a software program called Napster for the purpose of finding music. After creating this software, "millions became Napster users in a matter of months" and Napster "servers contained hundreds of thousands of bootlegged audio files donated by users" (Choi). Another example of P2P file sharing would be Limewire, a service that is similar to Napster in which users would illegally share music with each other.
